About Hawthorne Asylum Food Truck Pod

At the corner of SE 10th Ave and SE Madison St, the Hawthorne Asylum Food Truck Pod is one of Portland’s most exciting food destinations. Known for its eclectic lineup of vendors, it feels more like a community gathering space than just a place to grab a meal. Each truck brings its own unique character, so walking through the pod feels like taking a culinary tour of the world without ever leaving Portland.

A World of Cuisines in One Place

From sizzling tacos and smoky barbecue to vegan-friendly bowls and fusion street food, the variety here is incredible. Every truck has its own loyal following, and it’s easy to see why—there’s a constant energy in the air as people wander between stalls, checking out the day’s specials and grabbing dishes hot off the grill. The food options change enough to keep things interesting, so even regular visitors always find something new to try.

Laid-Back Atmosphere with Plenty of Space

The vibe at Hawthorne Asylum is part of what makes it so special. Picnic-style seating, colorful murals, and the buzz of conversations create a lively yet laid-back atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can come with friends, meet new people, or just sit back and enjoy your food under the Portland sky. There’s always a welcoming feel that makes the pod more than just a quick stop—it’s an experience.

Flexible Service Options for Every Mood

Whether you’re planning to hang out for a while or just grab something to go, the pod makes it easy. Many vendors offer convenient takeout, while the shared outdoor seating invites guests to relax and savor their meals on-site. This mix of service options makes Hawthorne Asylum a go-to for both casual lunches and lively evening meetups.

This may be the best food cart pod in Portland as of 2025. They have steadily improved this location. There is now a dedicated bar that serves beer, wine, and liquor. The food cart options and variety make this a safe bet for large groups every time. On extremely busy nights, seating can be hard to find sometimes. However, there is typically plenty of space for everyone to have there own area to chill and eat. There are so many delicious, incredible options here and many have been there for over five years now. Highly recommend this pod.

This food court in Portland was fantastic! There are at least a dozen foodcarts with all sorts of offerings. I tried a burrito from a Korean fusion place and it was delicious . Other offerings on hand were a good looking Philly cheese steak cart with a lot of different sandwiches, there was a falafel cart, burgers, bubble tea, a bar and plenty of seating. During the cooler months there is a large outdoor fireplace to keep warm by and in the summer months, there is plenty of covered seating. There is also some interesting artwork and murals. I would definitely recommend stopping by and getting food here.

We got a burrito and a waffle sandwich, but there are so many more trucks to try! Tons of vegan options! This is a great place to stop for lunch or dinner. Really fun, artsy vibes and plenty of shaded seating.

If you are traveling to Portland I really recommend trying foods here specifically for dinner (night vibes were great) A very good variety of good foods with great vibes and atmosphere to go with friends or family. There is also a cool bar on-site so you can both get a drink and grab a food. A couple of different seating areas including a covered heated table for colder weather.

This place is awesome! One of the best experiences of our vacation. Cocktails and food carts how awesome! Watching people mingle. So many food options. The decor is cool too. If your on vacation this place offers all the different food a family could want. Lots of tables a little wait on food. But they have an amazing system. You order then get a pager and when it goes off you go pick up your food where you ordered it at. Also they separate the trash for recycling.
